About the Artist

Cheryl A. Harris currently works from her art studio in Covington, Indiana where she is self-employed and offers both illustration and design services. Her illustration and design work is commissioned by both corporations and private individuals. She exhibits her fine art in regional juried art festivals and has received numerous awards for her drawings and paintings.

Cheryl’s talent for drawing and painting began to show at an early age. She pursued her love for art through high school and college, receiving a Degree in Commercial Art in 1977 from IVTech College, Columbus, Indiana. Since graduating, her employment history has included work as an Advertising Agency Art Director, commercial graphic designer, technical product illustrator and fine artist. In 1993, she started her own business, Cheryl A. Harris Design & Illustration.

Cheryl works in a number of mediums, including her favorite, Pencil. Her commissioned portrait drawings of people, animals and architectural subjects are displayed in corporations and homes throughout the Midwest. Praise is given for her ability to capture the expression and personality of each subject. Her drawings are exquisitely rendered with shading and intricate detail. Cheryl’s love for people and animals has inspired her to create a series of limited edition prints of original pencil drawings that capture the beauty and expression of many of her favorite subjects. “There is a pureness about pencil. You can look at a subject in black & white, without the camouflage of color, and see its inner beauty.”

Cheryl’s work also includes interior residential and commercial Mural paintings on ceilings, walls and floors. She was commissioned to design and paint a 28’x 12’ color mural depicting the “Covington Trojans” for the Covington, IN High School gymnasium as well as a center court circular mural for the floor. Both can be viewd in the Mural Gallery section of this site. She previously donated her services in the painting restoration of the historic 1936 Murals in the Fountain County, Indiana Courthouse.
